A Global Youth Network for Water Action

The World Youth Parliament for Water brings together passionate youth who know that water is the vital piece in every puzzle. The network supports local engagement on levels where traditional development efforts may not reach, and elevates young people to positions of influence that would otherwise be off limits.

In Brasilia, the network renewed its strength during the 8th World Water Forum, helping participants forge lasting friendships.

Advocacy

The World Youth Parliament for Water advocates on the international stage, on behalf of its network of local members. We strive for an open participatory approach. The Parliament prompts dialogue with decision makers about key challenges.

On regional and basin levels, members take on roles of influence, raising the profiles of youth in their communities. They petition for a direct role in water management, participate in public consultations, and drive future planning. We strive to be legitimate stakeholders who have full recognition and are not merely consigned to a token role.

Awareness

The Parliament uses its global reach and connection to draw attention to issues of vital importance. As resource scarcity increases the risk of water-related conflict, the network believes that advocating for Water and Peace is essential. At the latest general assembly, our members decided to put a particular focus on this topic. We’re partners with the Geneva Water Hub on the Youth For Water and Peace platform, and expanding the reach of the Blue Peace movement for water cooperation.

Concrete projects

For young leaders who want to turn their passion into concrete local projects, the Parliament is a support system connecting field actions around the network. Thanks to knowledge and support gained from their involvement in the Parliament, many of our members are improving the lives of people in their communities right now. Here are a few examples drawn from the wide range of projects underway now around the globe.

Marly - Guatemala

Marly's team is constructing rainwater harvesting and distribution systems for ten families and an elementary school, benefiting over 150 people.

Zinsou - Benin

The Benin Youth Parliament for Water is organizing a cleanup and hygiene awareness campaign for elementary and secondary schools in the region.

Nare - Armenia

Nare's project is creating a network of civic journalists in Armenia to create a dialogue about water crimes. Training sessions will help participants understand and report on these crimes constructively.
